Valiant Armoury promotes the safe practice and use of any sword or edged collectible. Like the historical examples they are based upon, all edged collectibles from Valiant Armoury require special maintenance and care.
Maintenance and Care:
Our swords are made of high carbon steel and need care to keep them rust free. Do not leave a high carbon blade in a scabbard or sheath for a prolonged period of time or it can and will rust. If you must store the blade in its scabbard or sheath, extra precautions should be taken regularly.
All Valiant Armoury swords are shipped with either a light coating of oil or petroleum gel to prevent rusting while in transit or while being stored in our warehouse. This coating can be removed by the consumer upon receiving the item but special care should be taken after these coatings have been removed. We recommend mineral spirits to remove the coatings. All of the metal parts of your sword or edged collectible should be covered with a light coating of either oil, silicone spray or a thin wax. This will help to prevent rust. Wood handles should be treated with a light coating of oil or finishing wax to maintain and prevent cracking.
All leather parts of a sword or edged collectible including scabbards, sheaths and leather wrapped handles should be cared for as well. Scabbards and sheaths can be treated with a light coating of mink oil. This has a moisturizing effect as well as waterproofing. The handles should be treated with leather paste wax.
